Matmour With Stoppage Time Equalizer

Eintracht's unbeaten run continues after a late comeback away to FC Ingolstadt. Leitl had put the hosts one up (73') and it looked like the first defeat of the season was upon the Eagles. In the dying moments of the six minutes stoppage time Karim Matmour headed in to secure a point (90' +6).

Eintracht manager Armin Veh relied on Theofanis Gekas up front who returned from an injury to replace Jimmy Hoffer. Team captain Pirmin Schwegler was back in defensive midfield, Matthias Lehmann stayed on the bench again after his cup appearance last Wednesday.

It was the match of the the team with the best attack (31 goals) against the one with the most conceded (32), Ingolstadt were bottom of the league hosting the Eagles ranked second.

But the hosts did not show any nerviness and Eintracht seemed to struggle after the tense and most likely exhausting mid week cup match against Kaiserslautern which had gone to extra time. Despite a dominance of the Eagles (73% ball possession in the first half) they lacked a certain spark up front.

Idrissou (1') and Gekas (2') had early chances but also Ingolstadt advanced towards the Eintracht goal with Buddle (5') and Biliskov (11') missing the target after set piece situations. Eintracht had another promising situation when Meier crossed in sharply but FCI goalkeeper Kirschstein was at the end of it (28').

Veh made no changes to the team going into the second half. Gordon Schildenfeld had the best moment after the break but his header was tipped over the bar by Kirschstein (56'). Ingolstadt stood deep and did not allow the Eagles major scoring opportunities. Karim Matmour replaced Benny Köhler (71').

Then Leitl got the ball at the halfway line, he had plenty of space and advanced towards the goal finally hitting home with a decent strike from 25 meters (73') - 1-0 to the hosts.

Korkmaz and Hoffer came on for Rode and Gekas (77'), Eintracht tried their luck with long balls towards the front but no major chances were created. The referees signalled six minutes added time due to various injury related breaks. With only seconds to go Karim Matmour headed in a Schwegler cross (90' + 6) and the large group of Eintracht away fans amongst the 9,840 crowd celebrated the late equalizer.

Frankfurt's unbeaten run continues on matchday 13 and for the moment they stay second in the standings (Greuther Fürth - ranked 3rd - are still to play on Monday night). Next up is another away match on Monday the 11th of November against Erzgebirge Aue (20.15h CET).
