The Eagles have bolstered their defensive ranks with the loan signing of Augsburg’s Austria international Martin Hinteregger, who will remain at Eintracht until 30 June 2019.
Born in Sankt Veit an der Glan in southern Austria, Hinteregger has made 18 league appearances for FCA this season as well as appearing twice in the DFB Cup. The 26-year-old, who can play as a centre-back and at left-back, completed 90 minutes in 19 of his 20 competitive appearances for the club in 2018/19.
“Proved his qualities”
“Martin is a robust and physical player, who has proved his qualities in the Bundesliga at both Augsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach,” said Eintracht board member Fredi Bobic. “We’re convinced he can help us in the challenging weeks ahead.”
The 1.86-metre defender has already worked with Adi Hütter, having played under the current Eagles head coach at RB Salzburg during their domestic double-winning season of 2014/15. Hinteregger also featured for Hütter’s Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.
Eintracht have “great potential”
“I think very highly of Adi Hütter and his style of play, and I’m looking forward to the new challenge,” said Hinteregger. “I obviously followed Eintracht’s games during the first half of the season and saw the great potential this team has. I would like to play my part in helping us build on the first half of the campaign.”
Hinteregger has scored five goals in 89 Bundesliga appearances for Gladbach and Augsburg, while also netting three times in 37 outings for the Austrian national team. The left-footed defender will wear the number 13 shirt at Eintracht.
