Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG and its parent club Eintracht Frankfurt e.V. are taking steps to bring their working relationship increasingly closer together. From 1 January 2018, the Eintracht family will create the new role of technical director of the youth academy and senior squad, with Marco Pezzaiuoli filling the position.
"Marco Pezzaiuoli's wealth of experience as coach of diverse Germany national youth teams, as well as his positions abroad in South Korea, Japan and China, make him a perfect fit for Eintracht Frankfurt and for this role," said board member Fredi Bobic. "He knows all the different aspects of football and has gained valuable working knowledge of the Bundesliga thanks to his time as head coach at 1899 Hoffenheim. Under his guidance, youth academy members and young players will be well prepared in time to make the step up to the professional level thanks to targeted, individual additional measures."
Pezzaiuoli was born on 16 November 1968 in Mannheim and his playing career took him to SV 98 Schwetzingen and VfR Mannheim. In the 1990s he worked in the youth academy at Karlsruher SC before becoming the club's assistant first-team coach under Stefan Kuntz and Lorenz-Günther Köster (from 2000 to 2003), and caretaker head coach in 2002. Pezzaiuoli, who has German-Italian roots, subsequently had a spell in South Korea as assistant coach at the Suwon Samsung Bluewings, with whom he won the K-League title in 2004. The 49-year-old's most recent position was as head of the youth academy at Chinese top-flight side Guangzhou Evergrande, coached by Luiz Felipe Scolari.
"It's nice to be coming home and to be able to work at such an exciting club as Eintracht Frankfurt," said Pezzaiuoli, who will travel with the senior team to their training camp in Alicante on 2 January 2018. "My new task will be challenging and very interesting. I'm very much looking forward to working with my colleagues in the youth academy and at the club and I hope we can achieve a lot together."
