Welcome visitors

Producing an equally high level of performance in both halves is the name of the game for the Eagles against Leipzig on Saturday evening.

In an interview with EintrachtTV, Adi Hütter said: “It’s now about showing that we can take the lead and win games. I’m sure we’ll step things up for the forthcoming assignments.” The Eagles boss was clearly addressing what has been his team’s shortcoming up to now, namely producing two equally convincing and good halves of football.

Frankfurt particularly need to improve on their chance conversion, which currently stands at 12 per cent – the league average is 17 per cent. Against second-placed Leipzig, greater efficiency will be vital.

Salzburg reunion

Hütter won the Austrian double in the 2014/15 season with Salzburg. In his team back then were current Leipzig players Peter Gulacsi, Marcel Sabitzer, Kevin Kampl and Konrad Laimer. Captain Sabitzer was playing with Martin Hinteregger and Stefan Ilsanker – also ex-Salzburg players – for Austria last weekend, but on Saturday they’ll be on opposing sides again.

SGE dominant against Leipzig at home

The head-to-head record between the two teams is perfectly balanced, with three wins each and three draws in their nine competitive meetings, plus an aggregate score of 12-12. The last time the clubs met was on 4 February 2020 in the last 16 of the DFB Cup, when Eintracht triumphed 3-1 at home.

The Eagles are yet to lose to Leipzig on home turf and have scored in all five games in Frankfurt, registering 10 goals in total. “In recent years, we’ve consistently proven that we can deliver against the supposedly bigger teams and step up to that level. So, we’re certainly looking forward to it and most of all, we want to finally pick up three points again,” declared Timothy Chandler.
