“Performance wasn’t good enough”

Markus Krösche, Oliver Glasner and Goncalo Paciencia were critical after Eintracht’s 2-1 defeat to Hertha BSC. The post-match reaction.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Our performance wasn’t good, particularly in the first half. We conceded the first goal too easily, we lacked penetration going forward and created precious few chances. Overall you have to say we deserved to lose. I think there are points in all areas where we need to improve. On the one hand we need to stop conceding easy goals, and on the other hand we need to become more forceful in one-on-one situations.”

We now need to pick ourselves up quickly and analyse what we didn’t do well today. We need to show a different side on Thursday.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “We’re disappointed – not just about the result, but also the performance. Especially in the first half, we made mistakes in our build-up play and couldn’t make inroads going forward. It felt like we lost every duel and deserved to go behind. The lads tried everything but the performance wasn’t good enough to take a point. But I don’t want to pass all the blame for the defeat onto the players. There wasn’t enough from everyone, including me. Maybe I could’ve intervened earlier. Hertha are deserved winners. Our task is to improve: to assert ourselves better, to win some of the one-on-one duels, to play quicker. And we need to get into more goalscoring positions.”

Goncalo Paciencia: “Statistics are of no interest to us because we didn’t win. The first half wasn’t good. We were better in the second half, we fought, but in the end we deserved to lose. We now need to pick ourselves up quickly and analyse what we didn’t do well today. We need to show a different side on Thursday.”
