Zalazar joined the Eagles from Malaga CF in July 2019. A few days later, the Uruguayan defensive midfielder – who also holds Spanish citizenship – moved to Polish Ekstraklasa side Korona Kielce on a season-long loan in order to gain more playing time.
When match operations were suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, the 20-year-old returned to Frankfurt from Poland ahead of schedule in April. Zalazar trained with Eintracht as the team’s pre-season preparations got under way this summer, but has now agreed a switch to St. Pauli. His contract with the Eagles runs until 30 June 2023.
“Bundesliga 2 is a physically demanding league in which you need to be at your best every week, and where your desire and fighting spirit are very much in focus,” said sporting director Bruno Hübner. “Those are certainly qualities that suit Rodrigo. We believe this next step will help him continue his process of integration and to come back stronger.”
