Both sides went into the game on the front foot while being disciplined without the ball. The early opportunities came from set-piece situations, and the first of these resulted in the opening goal as Jesper Lindström placed a well-worked free-kick into the bottom left corner (7’).
After that, the teams who are currently third and fourth in the Bundesliga each had spells of dominance, with Eintracht creating the clearer chances. However, goalkeeper Janis Blaswich was equal to both Lindström’s long-range strike (22’) and Lucas Alario’s header from a corner (28’). Kevin Trapp also produced an excellent save from Marcel Halstenberg’s powerful shot, but from the subsequent cross the left-back found André Silva, who nodded in the equaliser (35’). The ex-Frankfurt striker then made it 2-1 at the end of the first half.

Head coach Oliver Glasner changed his entire XI at the break, and the fresh legs provided a lift. The increasing pressure eventually paid off in the 70th minute when Rafael Santos Borré levelled the score at 2-2.
Within two minutes, the Eagles completed the turnaround courtesy of Randal Kolo Muani’s powerful finish from Mario Götze’s pass (72’). The French World Cup runner-up wrapped up a 4-2 win in the 84th minute, sliding in after goalkeeper Örjan Nyland rushed out to smother Ansgar Knauff.
