Kohr and Zuber on form, valuable game time for Akman

Seven Eintracht players are out on loan this season. While some have joined clubs in Germany’s top three tiers, others have moved abroad. Here’s how they’ve fared so far.

Dominik Kohr: Indispensable anchorman

Dominik Kohr’s Mainz 05 are currently seventh in the Bundesliga. The midfielder has missed just two league games this season, starting eight matches and completing the 90 minutes in five of them.

Ali Akman: Regular football in Nijmegen

Ali Akman was loaned to Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, where he has quickly proven to be a useful acquisition. The Turkish centre-forward has scored four goals in eight league starts for head coach Rogier Meijer’s side. He has also made three appearances as a substitute.

Steven Zuber: Time to shine

Steven Zuber joined AEK Athens on loan at the end of August. The midfielder got off to the best possible start, completing the scoring in a 3-0 win over Ionikos on his debut before netting in a 3-3 draw with OFI Crete on his second league appearance. He has continued to impress in Greece, registering three more goals as well as two assists.

Rodrigo Zalazar: Steady improvement

Rodrigo Zalazar moved to FC Schalke 04 in August on a 12-month loan deal.  The Uruguayan was left out of the matchday squad for the Royal Blues’ first two games of the season but has since racked up 10 starts in Bundesliga 2.

Igor Matanovic: Back after injury

Igor Matanovic joined Eintracht from FC St. Pauli in August before returning to the Millerntor on a two-year loan deal. The big striker suffered an adductor injury in April 2021 but after spending a large part of the first half of the campaign working his way back to fitness, he recently returned to action with a two-minute cameo against Werder Bremen at the end of October.

Fynn Otto: Playing the waiting game

Fynn Otto is spending the campaign at third-division Halllescher FC. He made his professional debut against TSV 1860 Munich on 21 September, coming on in the second minute of second-half stoppage time. The former Germany U16 international has made four league appearances so far.

Elias Bördner: Tough going

Another Eintracht academy product is currently plying his trade in the third tier. Nineteen-year-old Elias Bördner has made one league appearance for Viktoria Köln so far this term.
