Kevin Trapp on World Goalkeeper of the Year shortlist

The Eintracht stopper is among the nominees for this year's Yashin Trophy.

Kevin Trapp's performances for Eintracht Frankfurt in the current calendar year have earned him the honour of being among the nominees for the Yashin Trophy. The vote, which has been carried out by French magazine France Football since 2019, is considered the equivalent of the Ballon d'Or, which crowns the best player in the world.

Of the ten nominees, a football journalist from every country awards their top picks either five, three or one point. The player with the highest tally wins the award, with the number of first-place selections decisive in case of a tie.

The prize is named after former world-class goalkeeper Lev Yashin, who won, among others, the 1960 European Championship with the Soviet Union.

Liverpool custodian Alisson won the inaugural gong in 2019 but no winner was chosen in 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak. Former AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who currently dons his gloves for Paris Saint-Germain, was named as the winner last year.
