“Happy about the win”

The Eintracht players and staff were delighted about the club’s first success at Mainz 05 in 34 years.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “I’m very happy about the win, when you think that we haven’t won here in 34 years. It wasn’t an easy game. We didn’t dazzle in attack but moved the ball and the opposition around well. We’ve not had the luck on our side in many of our recent draws, but we stayed calm and always had faith in our strengths. The most important win was obviously the one at Augsburg. We’re confident going into the upcoming matches. A lot of teams will be fighting for the European places – we’re one of them. Our aims can and should be high, but there’s still a long way to go. Leverkusen are favourites on Tuesday but anything can happen in one game and we’ll try our best to go through.”

We wanted to have more control over the game but the pitch wasn’t very good. It was difficult to control the ball. Nevertheless, we deserved the win. Well done to the whole team.

Erik Durm: “We knew that Mainz would give it their all and make it an intense, hard-fought match. We did well especially in the first half, gave very little away and made some good interceptions. We also had chances in the second half which we should’ve done better with, such as mine when I wanted to play it to Seppl [Sebastian Rode]. Of course, Mainz tried to get back into it through set pieces into the box, but we dealt well with all of them, so we deserved to win.”
