What are you expecting from the game against Shakhtar in Kharkiv?
“We’re playing against a team with a tremendous amount of quality. They have several technically gifted Brazilians in their side along with some Ukraine internationals. They all know how to play football. They’ve been involved in the Champions League this season, so Shakhtar will demand everything of us. They’re tough opponents, but we’re really looking forward to it.”
Shakhtar haven’t returned to league action yet. Could that be an advantage for you?
“Of course it’s always good to be in a rhythm, but Shakhtar know what it’s all about. They’ll be determined to win as well and won’t be looking for excuses, so it’s not necessarily an advantage.”
How are you looking to approach Thursday’s game in order to get a good result in the first leg?
“We have two very difficult games ahead of us in which we’ll have to go to our limit. We need to show passion and commitment, if not it’ll be difficult. The whole team have been fired up and looking forward to this match ever since the draw, though. We’re also in a position where we can set ourselves up away and then seal our place in the next round at home. That’s a great opportunity that we want to take. We want to keep writing our European story.”
