Joveljic heading out on loan to Wolfsberger AC

Young forward Dejan Joveljic is joining Austrian club Wolfsberger AC on a season-long deal.

The 21-year-old striker joined Eintracht from Red Star Belgrade in the summer of 2019, making ten appearances in all competitions during the first half of the 2019/20 campaign. The Serbia Under-21 international found the net in his first competitive outing for the club, scoring in the 2-1 victory over FC Flora Tallinn in the qualifying rounds for the Europa League group phase.

It’s important for him and for his personal development to get playing time now.

Sporting director Bruno Hübner

Joveljic was loaned out to RSC Anderlecht during the second half of last term, and the pacey striker quickly established himself as a first-team regular with the Belgian top-flight side, starting all five games between February and March and helping the club pick up ten points during that period. However, the campaign was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Joveljic returned to Eintracht ahead of schedule. To help him recapture the fine form he displayed in early spring, the Eagles have now loaned Joveljic – who is contracted to the club through to 2024 – to Wolfsberger AC, who finished third in the Austrian Bundesliga and qualified for the Europa League last term.

“We still see Dejan Joveljic as a player who can strengthen Eintracht Frankfurt in the future,” said Eintracht sporting director Bruno Hübner. “However, it’s important for him and for his personal development to get playing time now. Due to the competition for places in our attack at the moment, that’s something we couldn’t guarantee him here. Dejan was top of Wolfsberg’s wish-list, and he’ll have the chance to play a lot there and gain in confidence, particularly as WAC will be playing European football.”
