Zimmermann extends deal

Goalkeeping coach, who took on role four years ago, extends contract.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Jan Zimmermann have agreed terms on an early extension to the goalkeeping coach’s contract. Zimmermann’s original deal, signed in March 2021, was set to expire on 30 June 2024, but the 38-year-old has now committed his future to the club who trained him as a youth. Zimmermann took on responsibility for training the goalkeepers at the club in January 2020, while he was still on the books as a player.

Zimmermann joined Eintracht back in 1994 as a nine-year-old and went all the way through the youth system at the club, culminating with the U-23s and then the first-team squad. He had six-and-a-half years playing for other sides before returning to SGE in 2017, and was part of the squad which won the DFB Cup in 2018. In January 2020, he made the move directly from the playing to the (goalkeeper) coaching staff.

Jan is someone with innovative ideas, and he brings valuable elements to the table in terms of goalkeeper coaching.

Sporting director Timmo Hardung

“Jan is someone with innovative ideas, and he brings valuable elements to the table in terms of goalkeeper coaching,” said Eintracht sporting director Timmo Hardung. “What is more, he always manages to create a good working atmosphere, and that makes him a very important part of our group. This philosophy is something that he shares not only with our first-team squad but also for the long-term good of the club via the goalkeeping set-up at our youth academy and the women’s football department. Jan has played a significant role in the development of our goalkeepers and we are delighted that he will be part of the club in the years to come.”
