Jakic into the semis!

Croatia won their second penalty shoot-out in a row, this time against Brazil, and are through to the last four for the second consecutive World Cup. Kolo Muani will be looking to join them there on Saturday.

This is Kristijan Jakic’s first major tournament, and his Croatia side are already through to the semi-final! The 25-year-old was an unused substitute against Brazil and is still looking for his first minutes of game-time at the competition. Nevertheless, he is still in the running to win the most prestigious trophy in world football, after the 2018 finalists defeated Brazil 4-2 on penalties.

The score was goalless after 90 minutes and then 1-1 after two periods of extra time. Neymar (105th minute + 1) gave Brazil the lead, only for Bruno Petkovic (117’) to pull Croatia back level. That then gave Dominik Livakovic the opportunity to be the decisive figure, the ‘keeper once again standing tall in the shoot-out.

Kolo Muani’s France taking on England on Saturday

In the semi-finals, Jakic’s Croatia will face Argentina at 20:00 CET on Tuesday, after the South American side squeezed past the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties late on Friday evening.

Prior to that match, Randal Kolo Muani’s France will be looking to book their own semi-final date, with the defending champions facing England on Saturday evening, again at 20:00 CET.
