Mexico and Carlos Salcedo played their final 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifier overnight on Tuesday. The Mexicans, who had already qualified, suffered a 3-2 defeat in Honduras despite twice taking the lead. Oribe Peralta (17’) and Carlos Vela (39’) scored the goals for El Tri, but Alberth Elis (34’), an own-goal from goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa (54’) and Romell Quioto (60’) earned Honduras victory and a place in the World Cup play-offs. Having played 90 minutes in the 3-1 win against Trinidad & Tobago last week, Salcedo was an unused substitute.
Elsewhere, Sahverdi Cetin and the Germany U-17 side suffered a shock 4-0 defeat to Iran at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup India 2017 on Tuesday. Eintracht midfielder Cetin played the full 90 minutes.
