Marco Fabián and Carlos Salcedo (Mexico) / Ante Rebic (Croatia)
Ante Rebic met two of his Eintracht teammates overnight when Croatia took on Mexico in Arlington, Texas. Rebic and his compatriots were narrow 1-0 winners, with Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot. While Marco Fabián was rested for the Mexicans, Rebic started and played 71 minutes. Carlos Salcedo came on at half-time but had to be taken off in the 68th minute with an injury.
Gelson Fernandes (Switzerland)
Gelson Fernandes impressed for Switzerland as they thrashed Panama 6-0 on Tuesday. The Eagles midfielder featured from the start and proved that he can do a lot more than just winning the ball, setting up the opening goal with a good pass. The ‘Neue Zürcher Zeitung’ even described his performance as “possibly his best international performance” to date. Fernandes was taken off after an hour, with the score at 5-0.
Mijat Gacinovic (Serbia)
Mijat Gacinovic only made a cameo appearance in Serbia’s second friendly of the international break. The 23-year-old came on two minutes before the end of a 2-0 win over Nigeria, in which Aleksandar Mitrovic scored both goals.
Makoto Hasebe (Japan)
Makoto Hasebe once again captained Japan in their narrow 2-1 defeat against Ukraine on Tuesday. Tomoaki Makino brought Japan level after an own goal from Naomichi Ueda had given Ukraine an early lead, but Oleksandr Karavaev’s goal in the 69th minute earned the Ukrainians the win in Belgium.
Luka Jovic (Serbia Under-21)
Serbia’s Under-21 side also suffered a narrow defeat, losing 1-0 to Italy in a friendly. Eintracht’s Benfica loanee Luka Jovic was substituted in the 61st minute, ten minutes after Luca Vido had scored the only goal of the game.
Marijan Cavar (Bosnia and Herzegovina U-21)
It was a more successful evening for Marijan Cavar, who celebrated a 4-0 win in Liechtenstein with the Bosnia and Herzegovina U-21s. Cavar not only played the whole match but also got on the scoresheet, his low shot seven minutes into the second half putting his side 2-0 up.
Aymen Barkok (Germany U-20)
Aymen Barkok remains unbeaten in a Germany U-20 shirt after a convincing 3-0 victory over Poland on Tuesday. Goals from Hoffenheim’s Robin Hack and Freiburg’s Patrick Kammerbauer, either side of an own goal from Dominik Jonczy, sealed the win for Germany. Barkok was on the pitch for 81 minutes and had a hand in two of the goals.
Lukas Hradecky (Finland)
Finland were in action on Monday evening but Eagles goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky was an unused substitute as they thrashed Malta 5-0.
Taleb Tawatha (Israel)
Taleb Tawatha was back with his teammates in Frankfurt on Tuesday as Israel only played one game – a 2-1 defeat to Romania on Saturday evening. Tawatha made his first appearance for his country since June 2017, playing the full 90 minutes.
