“Battled with 10 men”

Markus Krösche, Oliver Glasner and Kevin Trapp were more disappointed by the result than the performance, recognised Napoli’s quality and looked ahead defiantly to the second leg.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Of course it’s annoying, we wanted to win the match. After the red card it was a different game. You also have to say, though, that we played against a really good team. The first quarter of an hour was good from us, then Napoli somewhat took control. We saw some of the things where we still have room for improvement, but the boys did well, battled with 10 men and defended tidily.”

We put in a very decent performance against a very good team.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “A very disappointing but deserved defeat. We played very well for 25, 30 minutes, but we didn’t capitalise on some good situations. Then we made too many mistakes of our own making and a team of this quality will exploit that. We had chances later on, but Napoli have incredible confidence and deserved to win. We’re disappointed right now, but we won’t bury our heads in the sand.”

Kevin Trapp: “We put in a very decent performance against a very good team. When you play with a man down for 25 minutes against opponents like these, it’s going to be extremely tough. We needn’t be disappointed with the performance. The result isn’t ideal, but when you see the atmosphere out there and know what this team are capable of, then we’re capable of overturning this result. That’s encouraging, as is the fact we didn’t go down without a fight. The red card was a very harsh decision in my eyes.”
