"I'm very happy with my progress" – Marco Fabián interview

Midfielder Marco Fabián discusses his health, when he might make his comeback and collecting donations for his homeland.

Marco Fabián on...

...his health: "I'm doing a lot better. I can feel progress being made every day of my rehabilitation. At the moment I'm doing a lot of cycling and a lot of weights for my muscles. The plan is for me to start running again over the next few days. I'm very happy with my progress and I hope I can help the team again soon."

…the seriousness of his injury:
"I had an operation in the area of my lumbar vertebrae, and two discs were affected too. I've never had such a serious injury, so it's been the most difficult time of my professional career."

...when he will make his comeback:
"I can't say for definite. I'll have to keep seeing how everything develops. I don't want to rule anything out – perhaps I can get involved again towards the end of this year. But my health is the absolute priority. But if I need to take more time then I will so that I can really return when I'm 100 per cent fit."

…the Mexico national team securing qualification for the World Cup: "I was really happy about that and I congratulated everyone immediately. Obviously that's an extra motivation for me. There's no way I want to miss out on the World Cup. However, I must also say that I haven't given that much thought yet. My priority is to get back with Frankfurt as quickly as possible. If I can do that then everything else will sort itself out."

…contact with his team-mates: "I speak to my team-mates every day. Obviously I can't always do it in person, as I have to go to my rehab, but we're always in touch via text message, for example. And when I'm here in the stadium I'm always really happy to see the guys. We get on really well."

…Eintracht's current performances:
"The team's played well recently and they've picked up a lot of important points and gone on a little run. Long may it continue. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the guys."

…collecting donations for his homeland Mexico alongside Carlos Salcedo: "We collected €6,500 Euro through fans' donations. It's a great amount and I'm really happy with it. The campaign to collect donations is far from over. Carlos and I will also contribute to it, as will our Eintracht team-mates. We'll disclose the final amount raised at the end of October. I'm sure it'll be a big sum and it'll be a huge help to the earthquake victims in our country."
