“I want to lead the way”

Robin Koch outlines his reasons for staying in Frankfurt, his aims for the season and his role as a leader in the team.

At the start of this week, Eintracht and Robin Koch reached an agreement to make his loan spell in Frankfurt a permanent one, with the 27-year-old signing a contract valid until 2027. At a press conference at the ProfiCamp at Deutsche Bank Park, the defender spoke about…

… his reasons for staying in Frankfurt in the long term: “I’m really happy about it. I’ve felt at home here ever since I arrived. I was really warmly welcomed by the team, the fans, the staff and the whole club and I could easily imagine staying here longer. I was quickly won over by everything and that feeling has intensified over time. I feel really good here at the club and I want to achieve many things. I’m happy to be here for the next few years and can imagine staying beyond that too.”

… his role: “My aim, even at my age, is to lead the way. I try to do that every day. Be it in training or away from the pitch, I talk to the young players and try to help them develop.”

… the captain’s armband: “It makes me very proud and it was a huge honour to lead the team onto the pitch as captain. But whether I’m wearing the armband or not, I want to lead the way. I see myself as a leader and want to continue being so.”

We’ve got big plans and we’re in a good position but we want to achieve more in the second half of the campaign.

Robin Koch

… the season so far: “We played well in a lot of games but also kept having matches where we’d ask ourselves afterwards why things had gone better the previous week. We need to improve in that regard and produce good performances more consistently – that will then reflect itself in our results. We’ve got big plans and we’re in a good position but we want to achieve more in the second half of the campaign. If everything goes well, we can have a say near the top.”

… resuming the season in Leipzig: “We’re really looking forward to it. I’m happy that we’re getting right back into action and don’t have a lengthy period of preparation. Leipzig are without doubt one of the best teams in the league and they’ve got a lot of pace up front, so we’ll need to do a lot better at the back than we did in the friendly against Freiburg. We need to be on our game right from the off. We want to perform well so that we can have a good start.”
