Home Spell is Broken

The Eagles managed the first home win of the season beating Hansa Rostock 4-1. Goals were scored by Idrissou (2', 56'), Meier (52') and Djakpa (90'+2) for Eintracht, Köhler missed a penalty hitting the post (75'). Jänicke scored for Hansa (71') in a match mainly dominated by Frankfurt.

Eintracht manager Armin Veh made three changes to the starting line-up of last week's 3-3 draw away to Cottbus: Köhler moved back to the left defender position while Djakpa stayed on the bench, team captain Schwegler returned to midfield, Korkmaz and Matmour also started so that Friend and Lehmann did not play from the start.

Mo Idrissou scored the opener after only two minutes when he converted from close range after a corner situation. A sigh of relief went through the crowd - this could help gaining the first home win since beating FC St. Pauli last season in March. Despite the comforting early lead the Eagles did not create too many further chances though, they controlled the match with plenty of possession but hardly came close to the Rostock goal. Idrissou had a high working ratio with lots of involvement, and with Schwegler being back in midfield Eintracht was dominant but with a lack of 'killer instinct'. Hansa Rostock - promoted from 3. Liga last season - struggled to get a grip on the Eagles, and so a rather quiet first half came to its end.

Djakpa was brought on for Korkmaz after the break, and the Ivorian gave Eintracht more of an edge. With a challenging pass he set up Alex Meier, who was at the end of the cross into the six yard box scoring his 6th of the season (52'). Only four minutes later it was again Djakpa who crossed in, this time Idrissou controlled the ball with great skill and volleyed in - 3-0 (54')!!

Lehmann replaced Schwegler after 61 minutes. The next scoring opportunity fell to Matmour but his shot from deep angle went over the bar (69'). Moments later Nikolov saved a Weilandt shot but could not keep hold of the ball, Jänicke converted from close range (71'). Then Benny Köhler stepped up when Entracht was awarded a penalty for a hand-ball but his shot hit the post (75').

Constant Djakpa had the final say in this match, in stoppage time he sent off a powerful shot which ended up in the net after a Hansa defender had deflected it (90'+2). 12 of Eintracht's 19 goals were scored or set up by a summer signing (6 goals and 6 assists), Alex Meier is for now 2. Bundesliga's joint top goal scorer again. The Eagles and Düsseldorf remain the only teams unbeaten so far this season and Eintracht is the only team scoring three or more goals on five occasions already.

38,500 celebrated Eintracht's move to spot three in the standings, the next match will be away to Dynamo Dresden on Monday the 26th of September at 20.15h CET.
