Holders Eintracht Frankfurt to play Ulm in DFB Cup first round

Eintracht Frankfurt will face fourth-tier SSV Ulm 1846 in the DFB Cup first round – with the holders the final team to be pulled from the hat by draw host Palina Rojinski.

The Eagles' DFB Cup defence begins with a trip to Ulm, one of German football's most tradition-laden clubs currently playing their football in the Regionalliga South-West.

The Sparrows, who finished ninth in the fourth tier last season, have reached the first round proper of the DFB Cup for the first time since 2001 by virtue of winning the Württemberg Cup.

Despite having to wait, Frankfurt Sporting Director Bruno Hübner was pleased with the outcome: "First of all, it was a nice introduction that the DFB Cup holders were drawn last. Ulm are a club with great tradition. They certainly shouldn't be underestimated, but we're looking forward to the game and of course our aim is to progress."

The draw took place in Dortmund on Friday evening, with the first-round matches scheduled to take place between 17 and 20 August.
