An André Silva brace and a superb Filip Kostic strike in the space of eight minutes gave Eintracht a comfortable cushion, and although Bielefeld quickly pulled one back, the result was put beyond any doubt in the second half thanks to Joakim Nilsson’s own goal and Luka Jovic.
Two changes from midweek
Adi Hütter made two changes to his starting line-up following Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at Freiburg, with Erik Durm and Daichi Kamada recalled in place of Almamy Toure and the suspended Aymen Barkok. Sebastian Rode was back on the bench following his recent injury, while fit-again Jetro Willems was included in the squad for the first time since May 2019.
Four goals in 11 minutes
The Eagles made most of the running early on without creating much in the way of real goalscoring opportunities, but the game exploded into life in the 25th minute. Nilsson’s attempted clearance hit his centre-back partner Amos Pieper and Silva gobbled up the loose ball to smash in the opener. It was 2-0 just two minutes later, when a short corner made its way to Kostic, whose stunning long-range strike flew past everyone and into the near corner.
Kostic then turned provider for Eintracht’s third goal and Silva’s second, the Portugal international finding the net with another left-footed volley for his 14th Bundesliga goal of the campaign. Bielefeld responded just a few minutes later, though, with Sergio Cordova’s header reducing the deficit. The game eventually settled down after that until half-time, although Amin Younes volleyed over from inside the penalty area.
Jovic puts cherry on the cake
Hütter’s men showed no intention of sitting on their lead after the restart, and in fact extended it in the 51st minute. Again the Eagles broke forward at pace and Kostic’s low cross was turned it into his own net by Nilsson – the fourth own goal that Eintracht have profited from this season. That dashed Bielefeld’s hopes of a comeback and it was Eintracht who had the next opportunity, Younes’ shot being deflected behind after some nifty footwork.
With the contest all but over, the action understandably quietened down but there was still time for Eintracht to add gloss to the scoreline. Kamada got down the left and cut it back from the byline to substitute Jovic, who had time to take aim and fire in his third goal in three appearances since returning to the club.
Summary: Dominant over 90 minutes
Eintracht underlined their good recent form with possibly their best performance of the season so far. Against a Bielefeld side who had conceded just one goal in their previous five league games, the Eagles were ruthless in their attacking and pressing, and could have won by even more.
