“We put a lot into it”

Head coach Oliver Glasner, Makoto Hasebe and Timothy Chandler felt Eintracht deserved to lose to Leverkusen but drew positives from the Eagles’ performance in an unfamiliar formation.

Oliver Glasner: “You could see that the boys tried everything. I’m happy with the performance – we put a lot into it and ran almost 120 kilometres. We’ve never played together in this formation before. We’ll now recover well and be 100 per cent ready for Thursday [against West Ham].”

Makoto Hasebe: “We started the first half well but were lacking in the final third. We’re strong on the counter-attack but we weren’t able to show that today. It wasn’t enough overall – we should have defended better. For Thursday we’ll have fresh players available again and need to show a different face than we did today. We managed to do that last week, too. We’ll win the game.”

We have to do better on Thursday and we will.

Timothy Chandler

Timothy Chandler: “We didn’t play a bad game, but we lost the ball twice in front of our own box and were punished for it. Bayer certainly deserved to win. We’d have liked to have got a positive result – the points would have been important. We have to do better on Thursday and we will.”
