Great Away Streak Continues

With a convincing performance the Eagles clinched a 4-1 away win against Dynamo Dresden. Gekas (35', 40') and Idrissou (84', 87') both scored a brace after the Eagles conceded the opening goal from a deflected Fiel free-kick (31'). Eintracht extended their unbeaten run of 6 wins and 4 draws in 10 competitive matches this season. In the 2. Bundesliga standings Frankfurt move up to third spot.

Manager Armin Veh changed the starting line up in two positions compared to last week's win against Hansa Rostock. Gekas and Djakpa returned to the team, Matmour and Korkmaz stayed on the bench. Team captain Pirmin Schwegler was able to play despite his recent back problems, and both Gekas and Idrissou started up front in a 4-4-2 formation.

28,976 in the sold out "Glücksgas-Stadion" - around 2,500 Eintracht supporters among them - saw an interesting start with various half chances on either side in the first 20 minutes but no major scoring opportunities. After around half an hour Dresden won various free-kicks and it was a set piece situation as well that lead to the opening goal. Fiel hit a direct free-kick from just outside the box and after an unlucky deflection of a defender Eintracht keeper Nikolov was beaten: 0-1 (31').

But Frankfurt impressed with a swift comeback, it took them only five minutes to turn around the match. Gekas headed in a Schwegler corner to equalize (35') and the Greek striker was also at the end of a fine Jung cross to score the lead, also with a header (40'). Köhler nearly added the third with a long range shot but it went wide (42').

Both managers left their teams unchanged for the start of the second half. Eagle skipper Schwegler orchestrated a dominant display of Eintracht, he had the second most touches on the pitch (104) and a fantastic passing success rate of 93%. Idrissou twice, Djakpa and Köhler tried their luck with attempts but to no success. Lehmann came on for Rode after 66 minutes, a little later the hosts brought on former Eintracht player Marcel Heller (68'), also Hoffer was subbed on for Gekas (72').

Then it was Idrissou time again, the striker from Cameroon scored a brace also after a couple of fast breaks. First it was Meier who set him up in front of goal (84') after Köhler had played the through ball, then it was Hoffer who set up Köhler and his pass was again converted by Idrissou (87'). The last minute signing of late August has now scored 5 goals in 3 games and managed 1 assist also - a perfect start to his time at Eintracht. With him and Gekas both scoring twice the change of tactics by manager Armin Veh and his decision to put two strikers up front proved to be the right move.

Eintracht's record so far is impressive, they are unbeaten still (like 2nd placed Düsseldorf), they have the best away record (13 points from 5 matches away from home), they scored the most goals alongside Düsseldorf (23) and they scored three or more on 6 occasions already. The Eagles moved up in the standings to third place - the play-off spot. Coming up on matchday 10 is a home match next Friday at 18h CET: Frankfurt will host 8th of the league Union Berlin.
