“We’ll take that with us”

Head coach Glasner, captain Rode and Trapp criticise the opening period at Mainz and take away important lessons for Seville.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “I’m really glad we had this game. The first 15, 20 minutes were dire. We weren’t ready for intense Bundesliga football. After that we woke up, accepted the intensity, played well and, as well as scoring the goals, tightened up defensively. In the second half we were too vulnerable to the counter, we perhaps wanted too much. What pleased me is how the boys fought back. That’s been a characteristic of ours all season.”

Sebastian Rode: “Going behind roused us. Before that we hadn’t even managed to get out of our own half. Then we managed it better. Mainz were fired up and we wanted to put in a good performance in order to go into the final with confidence. The draw is fair.”

he first 20 minutes were an example to us of how we shouldn’t play.

Kevin Trapp

Kevin Trapp: “Beforehand, neither team really knew what to expect because there was little to play for. The first 20 minutes were an example to us of how we shouldn’t play, as we didn’t get into the tackles and played a lot of misplaced passes. After that we did better. We’ll take that with us from the game.”
