Training

“The boys are going for it”

Oliver Glasner summarises the training camp, gives an update on Ansgar Knauff, singles out one particular player for praise and outlines the next few days.

Oliver Glasner on...

…his impressions from training: “I’m very happy. We’ve covered a lot of content, including physical aspects. It’s confirmed what I expected. The way the boys are going for it, the intensity they’re showing each day – it’s great. Obviously not everything’s clicking yet, the legs and mind are tired, but the challenge is to face up to that and still produce a really good performance against Torino on Friday, particularly with regards to the things we’ve been working on in training this week.”

...the main areas of focus in training: “One of the things we’ve worked on is our processes off the ball. Pressing, who closes down and how, how we act with and without the ball. We need solutions there, which is something we’ve worked on throughout the week. We also want to be more accurate and consistent in our finishing.”

…Ansgar Knauff’s injury: “It’s nothing serious. He’s bruised something in the pelvic area and has some pain, so he’s doing a lot of fitness work. I expect that he’ll be able to return to training in Frankfurt next week.”

…Daichi Kamada: “He’s in excellent early form. He’s carrying the play from defence into attack because he’s putting himself in clever positions to receive the ball. His finishing has been very good in recent days. He’s tactically clever off the ball, closes the spaces and always gets through his 12 kilometres.”

…the competition for places: “I don’t get the impression that anyone’s taking it easy. The increased competition for places is a reason why everyone wants to show that they’re a candidate for the starting line-up, which provides the necessary pressure. Everyone’s ready.”

…the coming days: “First we want to finish off with a cracking friendly, after training for two weeks straight. On Saturday we’ll have a rest and recovery day and treat everyone medically. After that it’ll be good for the players to not see or hear from us for two days, and also to have breakfast when they want and not when the coach wants.”
