Frankfurt and Dortmund share the spoils

In an even affair at the Commerzbank Arena, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund took a both a goal and a point apiece from Saturday afternoon's match to leave the hosts' unbeaten record so far in 2009/10 intact.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

Frankfurt were looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a positive result at home to a Dortmund side looking for consistency with one win, two draws and a defeat from their opening four matches.

Bright start

The first half began brightly with Frankfurt enjoying the more possession, appearing the more motivated of the two teams while Dortmund created the better chances. As the match progressed, however, neither side was able to seize the initiative and the sides went in level at the break.

Just reward

The visitors gave a more committed showing in the second half and were rewarded when Mohamed Zidan (62') opened the scoring just after the hour. Felipe Santana won possession in midfield before Tamas Hajnal played into the path of Zidan. The Egyptian striker found his feet before finishing with aplomb.

Subotic mistake

It didn?t take long for the hosts to draw level, though, although Dortmund defender Neven Subotic may well feel regret at his part in the equalising goal. The Serbian centre-back unwittingly laid the ball off for Frankfurt's Ioannis Amanatidis (68'), who made no mistake in smashing the ball past Roman Weidenfeller from all of 20 yards.

Fair result

The final whistle brought the end to an entertaining game of football in which both sides had opportunities to take all three points. All in all, though, the draw was a fair reflection on proceedings at the Commerzbank Arena and both sides will have plenty to build on ahead of matchday five.
