Eintracht

Focus switches to the Bundesliga

After back-to-back games against world-class opponents, Eintracht have greater chances of success as they return to Bundesliga action on Saturday against Hertha Berlin.

From the Finnish capital to its German counterpart: following the 2-0 UEFA Super Cup loss to Real Madrid at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Wednesday evening, the Eagles will be in Berlin for Bundesliga Matchday 2 on Saturday 13 August (kick-off 15:30 CEST).

Good omen

The Eagles have fond memories of travelling to Hertha's Olympiastadion in their first away match of a new season: they did so in the 2020/21 campaign too - and came away with a 3-1 victory. Indeed, the Olympiastadion has been a happy hunting ground on the whole for Eintracht in recent years. In addition to winning the DFB Cup there four years ago, they have won each of their last three league visits to Hertha.

It'll be nice, it'll be special.

Cup exit and derby defeat

The capital city club have begun 2022/23 with two consecutive defeats. They were knocked out of the DFB Cup in the first round by second-tier outfit Eintracht Braunschweig before losing 3-1 to Berlin rivals Union on Bundesliga Matchday 1.

Kevin-Prince Boateng, who returned to his hometown club in summer 2021, says he is going into this weekend's game "with a good feeling" as the 2018 cup winner prepares to face his former teammates.

"It's always very emotional to play against my old team, even if I was only there for a year," the 35-year-old said in a pre-match press conference. "It'll be nice, it'll be special. The two teams will face each other on an even footing.
