“The basics are important”

Ahead of the match against Olympiacos, head coach Oliver Glasner and Djibril Sow spoke about the opposition, team selection and formations.

Oliver Glasner and Djibril Sow on…

personnel:

Oliver Glasner: “On the personnel front it's looking positive. Sebastian Rode is in the squad and he's feeling good. Barkok and Lenz are still out unfortunately, but the rest are available.”

…the starting line-up:

Glasner: “Every player is an option for the squad because we have faith in all the players. The fitness and form of individual players, which we always have to look at, are important.”

…opponents Olympiacos:

Glasner: “Olympiacos are used to being in the Champions League at this stage of the season. They’re the league leaders and have only suffered one defeat. They’re very well organised and transition quickly. It will be important to keep a cool head. We need trust in our ability, and then I expect an even contest in which both sides will have to go to their limit to win.”

We're playing good opponents and Europa League home matches in Frankfurt are always special.

Djibril Sow

Djibril Sow: “Olympiacos have won the first two games and are a strong team. I think it's a very even group and tomorrow it's about stopping them in their tracks. We're very much looking forward to tomorrow's match. We're playing good opponents and Europa League home matches in Frankfurt are always special. It will have a bearing on the table too.”

…the formation:

Sow: “If we play a misplaced pass, the formation is irrelevant. I’ve already played in a number of formations at Frankfurt. It always comes down to how we implement the system. The basics like aggression are important.”

…the relevance of the match:

Glasner: “First of all we have to concentrate on our performance. That's much more important than calculating the table. The performance on the pitch is crucial. Obviously the result is relevant for the outcome of the group – but not in terms of how we perform tomorrow and carry out our jobs.”
