Eintracht host FC St. Pauli at Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday (kick-off 17:30 CEST) looking to seal qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season.
At the pre-match press conference, Dino Toppmöller discussed…
… the final home match of 2024/25: “I’m going into the last home game with great anticipation. What can be nicer than the opportunity to wrap up Champions League qualification in front of your own fans? The players have a lot of energy on the training pitch, a good focus and are all looking forward to the match.”
… St. Pauli: “The team are a solid unit, have very good defensive stability and set up very well for their opponents in every match. They have some really good ideas going forward. What they’re lacking is the final cutting edge because they don’t have that player who guarantees you 10 goals or more. Some of their play is very good to look at, though. We should go into the match with great tension, focus, sharpness and aggression. Winning deservedly at Stuttgart and 3-0 at Freiburg takes some doing. The reverse fixture at St. Pauli was a tight game too [1-0 win for Eintracht]. We’ve been warned.”
We have very high self-motivation to win our match, which we’ll try our best to do.
Head coach Dino Toppmöller
… the team news: “The result of the MRI for Mario Götze was normal in terms of the healing process, but he won’t feature again this season. Other than Mario and Kauã Santos, all the boys are available.”
… permutations on Saturday: “It’s been hugely important for us to be totally focused all week, regardless of what happens in the other matches. We have very high self-motivation to win our match, which we’ll try our best to do.”
