Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Emmen have reached an agreement over the transfer of Felix Wiedwald, which brings the 30-year-old’s second spell with the Eagles to an end. Having joined Frankfurt from MSV Duisburg in 2013, Wiedwald moved to SV Werder Bremen in 2015 before a stint at Leeds United. The shot-stopper returned to Eintracht in summer 2018, spending the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Duisburg.
Wiedwald made 19 appearances in his combined three and a half years with the Hessians. His contract was due to run out on 30 June 2021 but the goalkeeper will now move to Emmen, who were promoted to the Eredivisie in 2018. After finishing 14th and 12th in their first two seasons in the Dutch top flight, the side currently occupy 15th place in the standings.
Sporting director Bruno Hübner said: “Felix Wiedwald is a player who’s fulfilled his role reliably over the years and identified himself with Eintracht. It’s no coincidence that those involved always talk about the harmony in the goalkeeping team. Felix can hope for more playing time at Emmen, and we wish him lots of success with that!”
