EURO: Top marks for Zuber in Swiss upset

Steven Zuber sets a new record in Switzerland’s historic win on penalties over France.

On Monday evening, Steven Zuber was in the starting line-up and Djibril Sow on the bench for Switzerland as they took on reigning World Cup winners France in Bucharest. Frankfurt’s Zuber again showed his eye for a pass in the 15th minute when he sent over a beautifully weighted cross into the box from just inside the byline. Former Eagle Haris Seferovic rose higher than the French defence to nod home and give Switzerland the lead. This was Zuber’s fourth assist already at the EURO this year – the most that anyone has ever managed at any European Championships!

Zuber came off in the 79th minute, and when the full-time whistle was blown, the score was 3-3. Switzerland went on to win the eventual penalty shoot-out 5-4, dumping the world champions out of the tournament in a real upset. Sow was an unused substitute.
