“An unbelievable feeling”

Oliver Glasner, Ansgar Knauff and Kevin Trapp believe their plan came off against Barcelona, and set out the approach for the second leg.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “We’re pleased about a fantastic performance. The energy is good for us. We played in a very disciplined manner and conceded few chances. We have to accept the goal we conceded. Overall, we succeeded in what we set out to do: play bravely, create chances, ask questions of Barcelona and ultimately head to Barcelona in a good position to reach the next round. The atmosphere was incredible.“

Kevin Trapp: “We can be proud of what we’ve achieved today. We had the better chances, defended very well and delivered an almost perfect performance. It feels a bit mad because we walked off the pitch with a 1-1 draw against Barcelona and have the feeling we could’ve won. Everyone fought, did their defensive jobs and at the same time looked for the way forward – even after the sending-off.”

Ansgar Knauff: “It was an unbelievable feeling scoring that goal in front of the fans in the stands. We gave little away over 90 minutes, even with 10 men, although the final 15 minutes were obviously hard. But it shows what we’re about that everyone dug in. From the first minute I felt that something was happening. The whole stadium was fully involved the whole time. If we play like that in the second leg, we have a chance. We have the quality to beat Barcelona if we follow through with our plan. That’s what we’ll do next Thursday because we want to progress.”
