Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “It was a really good Bundesliga match with plenty of attacking intent. I think we deserved more from the game. We have to accept the defeat, but the lads gave everything and showed great character. We know we can do a lot of things well, but we also know where we need to improve. We leave the ground with a much different mindset than our DFB Cup match – with our heads held high. That’s little consolation at the moment, but it’s very important for our development.”
You could see we wanted to win today, but we weren’t able to reward ourselves for our efforts.

Robin Koch: “We threw everything at them. Their second goal was particularly frustrating. We were very much in the game and wanted to try and get the winner in the second half. Instead, we conceded a second goal from a set play, which we can’t let happen. We tried everything, even though Leipzig and their dangerous front players were always a threat in transition. You could see we wanted to win today, but we weren’t able to reward ourselves for our efforts. We need to perform exactly like that next week, then we’ll have a very good chance of getting the win.”
Oscar Højlund: “I’m very disappointed – we deserved more. We had our chances, but that’s football. We need to look forward now. It’s difficult to say why we lost. It came down to details, both in attack and in defence. I’m actually very satisfied with my own performance, but it’s not about that – I’m just disappointed we didn’t win. That’s all I’m thinking about. We’ve had a good season so far and we have a lot of good players. I have faith in all of them and I’m absolutely sure we’ll turn things around against Mainz.”
