“Huge disappointment”

Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Timothy Chandler criticise the manner of the Europa Conference League exit: “That wasn’t Eintracht Frankfurt in Europe.”

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “There's a huge sense of disappointment. We had a super European atmosphere in the stadium but there wasn’t much of that to see on the pitch. Taking both games into account, we deserved to be eliminated. We can’t play the way we did in the first half. It’s about asserting yourself in the individual duels and showing a desire to assert yourself. You’re not going to win any Bundesliga game and certainly not a European game like that. We have to be critical of ourselves and say that wasn’t Eintracht Frankfurt in Europe and not what we fundamentally want. We need to show a different side at the weekend.”

The fans turned up but we didn’t on the pitch.

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We’re all extremely disappointed, especially with the way we performed. Everyone had a role in that. We were aware of the significance of the match but didn’t show that on the pitch. We want to show a reaction on Sunday and collect the points to be back in Europe next season – especially because of this support from the stands.”

Timothy Chandler: “Getting knocked out is very, very hard to take. We had our objectives and wanted to go a long way. Those dreams are all over. We weren’t able to assert ourselves over two legs against Saint-Gilloise and deservedly lost. We started very sluggishly, there was a lack of passion. The fans turned up but we didn’t on the pitch.”
