Eintracht sign Oscar Højlund

The Denmark U19 international has joined the Eagles from FC Copenhagen, signing a contract until 30 June 2029.

Oscar Højlund is a graduate of the FC Copenhagen youth academy, and made his professional debut for the Danish record champions at the age of 18.

The midfielder made first-team 23 appearances for the club, including two in UEFA Champions League qualifying and a further six in the competition proper last season, playing against Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Galatasaray in the group stage, and against Manchester City in the round of 16. Højlund was also part of Copenhagen’s title-winning squad in the 2022/23 campaign.

He has been captain of Denmark’s U19s since November last year, and has scored one goal in 11 appearances for the team.

Football very much runs in the family for the 19-year-old, whose twin Emil plays for Copenhagen, while his older brother Rasmus is a first-team regular at Manchester United. The siblings’ parents were also professional footballers.

I’m happy to be an Eagle now.

Oscar Højlund

Sporting director Timmo Hardung: “In Oscar Højlund we’re signing a very talented player, who has already gained international experience despite his young age, and is also a very good fit for us given his excellent footballing ability and character. Having said that, he’s still got plenty of potential to develop, and we’ll give him the necessary time to do so. We’re pleased that Oscar has chosen to join us. During our talks we could tell how much he was looking forward to coming here.”

Oscar Højlund: “Eintracht Frankfurt are a big club who I heard a lot of positive things about in Denmark. Obviously I’m aware of the UEFA Europa League success in 2022, among other things, as well as the fans’ unbelievable support in Barcelona and Seville. I’m happy to be an Eagle now and I’m already looking forward to experiencing what the Eintracht fans are like for myself.”
