Eintracht unveil six international brand ambassadors

Eintracht Frankfurt unveiled six former players as international brand ambassadors at the 37th German Sportpresseball on Saturday.

Five of the six new international brand ambassadors – Cha Bum-kun, Jan-Aage Fjörtoft, Oka Nikolov, Augustine 'Jay-Jay' Okocha and Anthony Yeboah – were present at Frankfurt's Alte Oper for the ceremony, while Chen Yang was unable to attend due to a prior commitment in his homeland.

"These aren't just well-known names for Eintracht Frankfurt fans, but well-known names throughout football," said Eintracht board member Axel Hellmann. "It's great that these individuals, who achieved so much for Eintracht in a sporting sense, will perform these roles for us. The ambassadors are particularly important with a view to our international activities and will help us to carry the Eintracht feeling worldwide."

More than 800 Eintracht games combined

At the 2017 Sportpresseball, Eintracht unveiled eight club legends as brand ambassadors, with six international brand ambassadors following at this year's event. The six former players won almost 400 international caps and racked up over 800 Eintracht appearances combined, defining various eras in the club's long history.

No Eagles fan, for example, could ever forget Okocha's sensational run and finish past Karlsruher SC's Oliver Kahn in 1993, to date the only Eintracht goal ever to win Germany's goal of the year award.

Known as 'Eternal Oka', Nikolov was Eintracht goalkeeper for 21 years and now works for Los Angeles Galaxy as a goalkeeping coach.

When in Eintracht colours, Yeboah twice finished as Bundesliga top scorer, while Cha Bum-kun was a 1980 UEFA Cup winner and remains a legend in South Korea after making 135 appearances for the country. For his part, Chen Yang was the first Chinese player ever to play in Germany's top flight.

The six international brand ambassadors will represent Eintracht worldwide.
