Eintracht sign Kaan Ayhan

On 3 January 2016, Eintracht announced the signing of 21-year-old defender Kaan Ayhan. Ayhan joined SGE from Bundesliga competitors Schalke 04 on a loan deal lasting until 30 June 2016.

The transfer includes the opportunity for Eintracht to sign Ayhan permanently for a fixed sum after expiry of the loan deal.

Ayhan played 30 Bundesliga matches for Schalke 04 and also made several appearances in Champions League and Europa League games. Ayhan also played both for the German and the Turkish U-21 national teams.

Eintracht Sporting Director Bruno Hübner said on occasion of the transfer, “Kaan, who has his strengths as a central defender, can play on different positions in the defense. He is young and can even become better, though he has already proven himself in the Bundesliga and on an international level.”

Ayhan gave the following statement, “For me, this is a special moment because for the first time in my career, I joined another club. In the next six months, I want to try to establish myself in Frankfurt and contribute to Eintracht achieving their goals for the season.”

Welcome to Frankfurt, Kaan! We wish you a great and successful time!
