Head coach Adi Hütter: “We found it really hard. Unfortunately, we didn’t realise that after going 3-0 up, we needed to move the opposition around, get the fourth goal and play with more confidence. Nevertheless, we showed character and deserved to win looking at the 90 minutes. It’s been an incredibly long season. I took Dominik off to give Jonathan de Guzman a final chance on his farewell. One major sore point for me is that I didn’t bring on Marco Russ and Gelson Fernandes. I’m annoyed about that.”
Sporting director Bruno Hübner: “I’m definitely satisfied. You saw today that it was important to us to do our job and get a result, also with regards to the TV money table. All three [De Guzman, Russ and Fernandes] are top professionals who have acted in the team’s interests and were important for the internal environment, even when they’ve been playing less. Marco is staying with us to work on analysis. We promised Marco that he’d come on if the score was right, but unfortunately we were hanging on at the end, which is why it didn’t happen.”
Marco Russ: “I’m not disappointed that I didn’t get on. There’s a tear in the eye today, but it’s the three points that matter. It was nice to experience matchday with the team again with the hotel, the bus journey and everything. It was a good ending for me, which I’ve been preparing for in recent weeks. I’m fit, which is the important thing. A new chapter begins tomorrow. I’m retiring because I’ve not played much in the last few years, and then I had the Achilles tear last August. I realised it was becoming more and more difficult for me to keep up. From a physical point of view, there was no point continuing. I grew up with this club and have experienced everything – I was even a ball boy here. After my family, Eintracht are the biggest thing in my life!”
