After Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG reached an agreement with the city of Frankfurt last week regarding its use of the Commerzbank-Arena until 30 June 2035, the club has now launched the ‘Arena of IoT’ – a digital centre in which Eintracht and their industry and research partners will develop digital industrial models relating to smart building, facility management, energy management, logistics and mobility projects for market application.
The term ‘Internet of Things’ refers to the network of intelligent objects capable of gathering and sharing electronic information among one another and via the internet. The industrial sector’s main objective is to connect machines and systems in a manner that allows entire industrial processes to be automated.
Eintracht’s ‘Arena of IoT’ digital centre will be equipped with its own project, spatial and personnel facilities as the club becomes the first, and currently only, in the Bundesliga to operate its own Internet of Things structure.
Eintracht board member Axel Hellmann on the launch of ‘Arena of IoT’:
“After the agreement with the city regarding the use of the stadium, we’re pleased to be starting a new chapter on the digitalisation of the stadium while playing our part in strengthening Hesse’s position as a digital location. The stadium is the ideal place to test sustainable digital industrial models for use in the market. There is no other place in Hesse where so many people congregate in a restricted space at a specific time – at Eintracht games or at concerts – than the Commerzbank-Arena. Industrial digital applications that operate in such an environment also work at all transport hubs, shopping centres and public spaces with the right bandwidth.”
