On Sunday, Baden-Baden was the location of what was likely to be the last highlight of an eventful and successful 2022 for Eintracht Frankfurt, with the Eagles crowned ‘Team of the Year’ at the ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ vote. As such, Eintracht received one of the biggest prizes that sport has to offer in Germany.
German sports journalists were eligible to take part in the vote, which Eintracht Frankfurt won for the first time ever as only the sixth men’s Bundesliga team to do so.
Being honoured as Team of the Year is an outstanding award.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche
“Being honoured as Team of the Year is an outstanding award,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “It’s an honour for us to have received this award, especially since the women’s national team deserved it as well.”
Reaction to the vote:
Head coach Oliver Glasner: “On behalf of the whole team I’d like to say a huge thank you for the Team of the Year award. We accept this honour for everyone who helped us win the Europa League title in May: all the players, coaches and staff at the club - and of course the fans who accompanied and supported us on this great journey throughout Europe all the way to the final in Seville.”
Sebastian Rode: “The Team of the Year title is one of the most important awards you can win in Germany. The vote fills us with pride. We made history in 2022 and achieved something very special. Anyone who knows me knows that I watch a lot of sports on TV and they also know what excellent athletes and teams we have in Germany. That’s why I know just how important the award is. As a team and as a club we’re joining the ranks of some great teams.”
Kevin Trapp: “Many thanks to everyone who voted. We’re proud of this award and it’s a great accolade because there were many outstanding athletes to choose from. Together with our fantastic fans we succeeded in inspiring all of Germany, maybe all of Europe, in April and May. We’ll do everything to continue this development in the new year as well.”
