Eintracht Frankfurt to travel to USA for summer training camp

The 2017/18 season is entering its decisive phase, but Eintracht Frankfurt are already planning ahead for the new campaign. Like last year, the Bundesliga club will head to the United States of America for the first of two training camps scheduled for 2018/19.

On 7 July 2018, Niko Kovac’s side fly out to Salt Lake City, Utah’s state capital and host city of the 2002 Winter Olympics, where they will take on local Major League Soccer outfit Real Salt Lake on 10 July. The game will be held at the 20,213-capacity Rio Tinto Stadium and will kick off at 20:00 local time (04:00 CEST). The Eintracht squad will spend the first five days of the tour at the RSL Academy, where they can look forward to perfect conditions.

"We’ve closely examined the options and facilities available to us," said board member Fredi Bobic. "The players and staff can look forward to the training camp, they'll have everything they need. From my own experience I know how important the training environment is, particularly during pre-season. We worked very hard last year in San Diego, San Francisco and Columbus, but we also made memories that will stay with the lads forever."

On 12 July, the Eagles will depart Salt Lake City for Philadelphia, where they will face MLS team Philadelphia Union - Eintracht legend Oka Nikolov’s former club - on 14 July. The clash at the 18,500-seater Talen Energy Stadium kicks off at 19:00 local time (01:00 CEST). "Philadelphia is a city that's mad about sport, we’re looking forward to going there," added Bobic. "Philly is one of 12 cities in the USA that boasts teams from all major sports."

In addition to MLS side Union, Pennsylvania’s largest city is also home to the Philadelphia Eagles (American football/NFL), the Philadelphia Flyers (ice hockey/NHL) the Philadelphia Phillies (baseball/MLB) and the Philadelphia 76ers (basketball/NBA). It has a population of 1.526 million people and also happens to be twinned with Frankfurt.

Eintracht are due to fly home on 15 July, the day of the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
