The Eagles registered their first league victory over Bayern in nearly ten years during the first half of the campaign. 203 days will have passed since that 5-1 win by the time the two teams face off on Saturday, and a great deal has changed. Bayern parted company with coach Niko Kovac immediately after that game, replacing him with Hans-Dieter Flick. The 55-year-old has an impressive record at the helm of the Bavarian club, steering them back to the top of the Bundesliga table with 13 wins from 16 league matches.

Flick’s charges returned to competitive action with a solid if unspectacular 2-0 win at Union Berlin on Sunday, while Eintracht slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday evening. “We just need to defend better from the get-go,” said defender Martin Hinteregger, while goalkeeper Kevin Trapp also knows what to expect at the Allianz Arena, saying: “It’s not going to be any easier in Munich, we need to be on the ball right from the start.”

Two and a half weeks after Saturday’s clash, the Eagles are set to travel to Munich again for the semi-final of the DFB Cup. “We need to be aware of the fact that we’ve got a lot of quality in the team and need to play in a more gutsy way,” Trapp added after Eintracht’s first training session of the week. “We’ve got a lot of very important games coming up, that’s what we need to focus and concentrate on.”
It will be a mammoth task for Eintracht on Saturday evening against the reigning champions, having lost 12 and drawn only one of their 13 visits to the Allianz Arena to date. What better time to upset the odds and claim their first win?
