“A performance of spirit and character”

Oliver Glasner shares his thoughts on Eintracht’s 1-1 draw with Gladbach, Aymen Barkok bids farewell to the Eagles fans and Goncalo Paciencia reflects on his stunning equaliser.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “I’m very happy because I know what happened on Thursday. We had eight new faces in the team, including players who were playing their first minutes of the calendar year. A lot of things weren’t perfect, but it was a performance of spirit and character. We had a hard time getting into the game after falling behind, but we grew stronger and stronger, got the equaliser and were closer to making it 2-1 at the end. The team’s character is impressive and I’m proud of the players, even though I know we haven’t won [in the league] for a long time. The fans have been able to put things in perspective and gave the players a great reception.”

My mother said this week that I need to shoot more from outside the box – it’s nice that it paid off today.

Aymen Barkok: “It was an unbelievable feeling to bid farewell to the fans. I’ll always be a Frankfurt lad. I hadn’t played in a long time so my legs got a bit tired towards the end, but it was obviously nice to be back on the pitch. Everyone gave their all and a draw was a fair result.”

Goncalo Paciencia: “I scored a nice goal, which is always important for a striker and breeds confidence. It’s a great feeling, partly because I hadn’t scored in a while. I know I have a good shot on me. My mother said this week that I need to shoot more from outside the box – it’s nice that it paid off today. I always give everything for Eintracht and am always there for the team. We can obviously play better than we did today.”
