“I hope we show a reaction”

Adi Hütter and his players were frustrated after suffering their first loss of 2021, but the Eagles squad are determined to learn from the defeat and do better against VfB Stuttgart in their next game.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “The defeat is very frustrating and hard to take, because we gave the game away. We didn’t have enough solutions and couldn’t reach our levels from the previous weeks. We were lacking bright ideas and didn’t rise to the challenge the way I expected us to. I hope we show a reaction to the defeat. The players will show their character now. They have the mentality to put on a different performance at home to Stuttgart.”

We didn’t play our best game today. We’re annoyed about that, but we need to keep going.

Makoto Hasebe: “Games against Bremen are always hard-fought and emotional. Werder sat very deep and did well at the back, that’s why we struggled. We had a lot of possession but were lacking that cutting edge. The defeat is very frustrating but deserved. We didn’t play well and lost too many easy balls. Werder have got fast players and we weren’t able to cope with them. Everything was missing today – both from a footballing and physical perspective.”

André Silva: “We weren’t able to create more chances at the end, unfortunately. We didn’t play our best game today. We’re annoyed about that, but we need to keep going.”
