“A more than deserved win”

The Eagles were proud of their fighting spirit in Saturday’s vital win at Borussia Dortmund.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “I could tell from the first minute that we were in fourth place, because we were brave. The result is deserved, even though BVB had their chances. We had the better opportunities, though, and were desperate to get the win. That made me proud. Overall we defended very well and closed them down well in midfield. We were bold with our team selection and ended up showing that on the pitch. We’d have settled for the draw, but to have made it 2-1 is obviously huge.”

Sebastian Rode: “It was an open game in parts, with chances on either side. It’s just nice to see how well we can hold our own technically and that we’re able to create chances. Eintracht hadn’t got three points here for a long time, which makes it even sweeter. Our aim was to win here, although we knew how incredibly difficult that is. Everyone from our main striker through to our goalkeeper fought incredibly hard until the end.”

I wasn’t disappointed when my goal was disallowed because I knew we’d score another. That’s exactly what happened.

Stefan Ilsanker: “It’s a more than deserved win. We had an unbelievable amount of chances in the second half and combined brilliantly with one another. Dortmund were extremely passive without the ball and gave us a lot of space, which we were able to take advantage of unbelievably well. I wasn’t disappointed when my goal was disallowed because I knew we’d score another. That’s exactly what happened.”
