Eagles in America: USA camp a great experience

Midfielder Marc Stendera delivers his verdict on Eintracht Frankfurt’s narrow defeat to Philadelphia Union and looks back on an enjoyable eight days in the States.

Hello Eagles fans!

The penultimate day of our USA tour was dominated by two events - the Wimbledon women’s tennis final between Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams, and of course our friendly against Philadelphia Union.

We started the day with a leisurely breakfast before meeting at the hotel at 11am for a light session ahead of the evening’s game. Our athletics coaches put as through our paces for 40 minutes with various stability and stretching exercises, which helped loosen up the muscles a little before our match.

Backing Kerber

After that it was time for some tennis - albeit only on the telly! First we watched Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic battle it out for a place in the Wimbledon men’s final before supporting Kerber in the women’s final. Congratulations, Angelique! It was great fun watching her and she fully deserved the win.

The hotel quietened down again after that, which is normal when you have a game in the evening. Some players read a bit, others listen to music or go for a nap - just as I did today. It was cool to play against Philly, even though we didn’t get the right result. We had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t stick the ball in the net. I was happy with the performance in the second half, apart from the first ten minutes after half-time.

On the whole, our training camp in the USA has been a great experience. We’re all flying home with smiles on our faces, despite the number of training sessions! I’m looking forward to being back in Frankfurt now.

Yours,

Marc
