Hello there, Eagles fans!
Allez les Bleus! France are in the World Cup final. Sebastién [Haller] and I were following the game with the rest of the squad on Tuesday, and we were over the moon they reached the final. Our new head coach Adi Hütter was kind enough to let us train and eat a little earlier so we could watch the game in peace. I have to be honest, I wasn’t expecting France to win. I was telling Sebastién before the game that Belgium are favourites. Romelu Lukaku is incredible, but thankfully I was proven wrong. The trophy’s within touching distance now.
Having fun on and off the pitch
Anyway, back to us. Our last few training sessions here have been pretty exhausting, but today wasn’t quite as tiring. Today’s session was particularly interesting from a tactical point of view. Hütter has been focusing on tactics from very early on as he wants us to buy into his philosophy, which is obviously a lot of fun as a player. We also had fun after training, with half the squad piling into the back of a golf cart and cruising around the academy while furiously honking the horn. It was pretty cool - I always enjoy silly things like that.
After a lengthy afternoon break we took on Real Salt Lake at the Rio Tinto Stadium. It was a decent performance overall. We dominated the second half in particular, with Nicolai Müller earning us a draw with a late header. The only downside was that I took a knock to the knee while challenging for the ball. It’s bound to be sore on Wednesday, but it’ll take more than that to keep Simon Falette out of action!
Best wishes from Salt Lake!
Yours,
Simon
