Form: Poor run stopped
FC Augsburg got their season off to an excellent start, defeating Union Berlin 3-1 away followed by a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and a 0-0 draw away to Wolfsburg. The next seven matches, however, brought them just the one win, but on Wednesday, FCA turned things around with a 1-0 success at Arminia Bielefeld.
This is Augsburg’s tenth consecutive Bundesliga season, and with 16 points from 12 games, they currently sit in a comfortable ninth position in the table. Eintracht find themselves just one place lower in tenth, knowing that a win would see them leapfrog their opponents.

Tactics: Short on goals at both ends
Coach Heiko Herrlich favours a 4-4-2 formation, but has shaken things up in recent matches with a 4-2-3-1 or even a 3-4-1-2 system. While Augsburg have been strong at the back, they have lacked a cutting edge up front. Seventeen goals conceded is relatively low, but just 15 scored at the other end is ahead of only the bottom four of Köln, Bielefeld, Mainz and Schalke.
One to watch: Daniel Caligiuri
After stints with SC Freiburg, VfL Wolfsburg and Schalke 04, Daniel Caligiuri joined Augsburg last summer. The experienced winger has started each of his new club’s 12 Bundesliga matches to date (taking his appearances beyond the 310 mark in the German top flight) and played all but four minutes.
With four goals and three assists, the midfielder is Augsburg’s leader in terms of goals and goal involvements this season, with the half-German, half-Italian scoring or setting up half of his team’s last 12 goals.
