Form
Düsseldorf's 4-0 win over FC Schalke 04 last week was the latest highlight in an impressive run of form that began on Matchday 15, when they defeated SC Freiburg 2-0 while bottom of the table. That kick-started a series of seven wins, one draw and two defeats over the past ten games, with their tally of 22 points over that period – a haul bettered only by defending champions Bayern Munich (27) - leaving them in 11th place in the table.
Tactics
Fortuna tended to use a 4-3-3 formation in the second division last season when they were often the favourites going into their games, but this term they frequently adapt their shape to the opposition. Coach Friedhelm Funkel therefore places value on flexibility and can send his side out with one, two or three up front as the match requires. Düsseldorf's ability on the counter-attack has improved greatly in recent months and they increasingly make use of the wings, with the closest defensive midfielder shifting over to provide cover on the flank in question.
One to watch: Dodi Lukebakio
Dodi Lukebakio is a player tailor-made for Düsseldorf's frontline, and he made a name for himself earlier this season with a hat-trick in the team's 3-3 draw away to Bayern Munich. Adi Hütter has urged his players to be wary of the 1.87m forward, not only because he has 12 goals in all competitions this term, but also because of his pace, dynamism and tendency to drift out wide. The 21-year-old, on loan from Watford FC, is the team's attacking focal point and has taken more shots (44) and been directly involved in more efforts on goal (66) than any of his team-mates this season.
